This
tour is a must for sheer indulgence, breathtaking beauty ,
rest and relaxation for both body and soul. |
|
The tour starts by flying into Bombay from where we
catch a connecting flight onto Kerala an oasis of calm and tranquillity staying
in a traditional Keralan house which is 'a gift from
the past for the present'. It is a genuine heritage
home set on an undeveloped Keralan beach. Originally
built in 1868 it has been lovingly and lavishly restored
to its original blend of Mughal and colonial style.
For sheer indulgence you can visit their Ayurvedic
centre, massage and treatment rooms.

Despite
the setting there will be plenty to do. You will be
able to drift along in a rice boat through the lush
and verdant Keralan backwaters and dine on board under
the starlit sky. We will also visit the more traditional
beaches where fishermen can be seen catching the evening
meal. Later in the day after a dip in the pool you will
be ready to savour the mouthwatering Keralan dishes
as you gaze out over the Arabian sea. |
|
|
| |
|
We will then spend some time in Munnar which is an old traditional
hill station famous for its tea and cardamom plantations
that criss cross the mountainside. This area is set
in breathtaking scenery and if we are lucky we will
see wild elephants as they roam around the area. You
can also enjoy a cookery demonstration after which
you get to eat the food!
|
|
| |
We then move onto the Thekkady Wild Life Centre perched on a hillock which offers an idyllic retreat.
An unparalleled opportunity to savour the magical sensation
of the evergreen rainforests that straddle the tiny
state of Kerala.
Within this setting is the stimulating aroma of spices,
flora and fauna. Surrounded as it is by evergreen and
dotted with tall shady trees entwined with pepper vines,
this exotic resort is a birdwatchers' delight as there
are over 60 different feathered birds which frequent
the locality. |
|
|
| |
|
We then travel to Cochin which is a fascinating city reflecting the wide diversity of Kerala with its'
old Portuguese houses and palaces. It is home to one
of the oldest churches in India together with a 16th
century synagogue. Fort Cochin offers spice markets
galore as well as a myriad of antique shops. We will
also be visiting the elephant orphanage (optional).
The orphanage takes in wounded elephants from the jungle.
It will be a memorable photographic opportunity and
a chance to help wash the elephants in the river. The
star of the show is always the baby!
Before leaving Cochin we will spend an evening watching
a performance of 'Kathakali' dancing which is India's'
most spectacular dance drama going back over 500 years.
From Cochin we will fly back to Bombay for our connecting
flight home. |
